The Flexo story in FCBD 2023: Spider-Man/Venom #1 "January, 1940" - from writer Al Ewing and artist Cafu - has little to do with Venom or Eddie Brock directly. It instead sets the stage for the upcoming Venom #22, which will see Eddie traveling through time as King in Black, fighting off against HYDRA Nazis in World War II alongside Flexo, and perhaps battling the symbiote "android" himself.
Al Ewing's retcon of Flexo is particularly ingenious because he basically retells the android's first story in Mystic Comics #1 beat-by-beat, except showing the truth of the original story.
